Ron Cooper, CPA
Funeral Home Accountant and Consultant
Ron Cooper, CPA is the owner and manager of Ronald Cooper & Associates CPA, LLC, an accounting firm that specializes in funeral home accounting and consulting. Ron currently works with funeral home owners from Maine to Texas. He and his staff spend a great deal of their time training and educating their clients on how to use and maintain an effective accounting system. The goal is to move beyond income tax bookkeeping to real-time accounting systems required to make timely management decisions.
In addition to being a funeral home accountant, Ron is also a former funeral director. He began his funeral home career at the age of fifteen when he went to work part-time for the William J. Swallow Funeral Home in Northampton, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, Ron served his apprenticeship at the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home in Seminole, Florida. In 1983, he became the owner and operator of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine.
Ron began his career in public accounting in 1979 with the then "Big Eight" accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., leaving as a senior accountant to join Coopers & Lybrand in their Boston office. While operating the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, Ron managed the Ronald H. Cooper, C.P.A., P.A. practice which specialized in funeral home accounting and operations. He has over thirty years of experience providing funeral home owners with professional accounting services.
In addition, Ron has designed and taught funeral home accounting and management courses at the college level. He also lectures on funeral home management, operations, mergers and acquisitions.
Outside the office Ron is a family man. He married Pam in 1982. Pam is also a funeral home accountant and QuickBooks ProAdvisor. They have two daughters. Becca lives in Aurora, New York and is the equine manager at Ledyard Farm. Hannah is a physician’s assistant at Bennett County Hospital in Martin, South Dakota. Ron enjoys horseback riding, writing fiction and fly-fishing.
